Did You Know…Mt Vesuvius

Did you know that on August 24 in 79 AD Mount Vesuvius unleashed its volcanic fury, destroying the towns of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Stabiae, and multiple others whilst killing thousands of people with its pyroclastic flows of searing gas and molten rock. Ironically the ash that covered the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum created an air tight seal which preserved the sites until their rediscovery in the mid 1700’s, making them two of the most important finds in Roman history.
