Stone Markers Back

These markers are a mystery to the Archaeological and Historical worlds. They sit roughly about 30 meters behind the Colosseum and don’t appear to offer any obvious explanation as to their original function. Perhaps they were an area to make offerings to the gods, or place bets before a gladiatorial fight; maybe it was a place of rememberance where tributes for fallen Gladiators could be left; possibly it was a vendors area to sell Gladiator sweat for its magical properties, or maybe they were ticketing gates. Whatever purpose they served these mysterious markers sit in the shadow of their amazing neighbor and are often overlooked. I recommend you take the time to see them the next time you visit the Colosseum in Rome.
